The Pro Series is Epoch's dual purpose battery: 300A of continuous discharge for house loads and 1,000A for five seconds for cranking, from the same Group 8D case. Can this really start an engine and run my house loads?
That's the point of the Pro Series. 1,000A for five seconds covers cranking on most marine gas and diesel engines, and 300A continuous handles house loads, an inverter, or a windlass. Tell us your engine on (303) 876-7654 and we'll check its cranking requirement against those figures rather than assuming — engines vary more than people expect.
How does the Pro Series differ from the Essential Series?
Cycle life and discharge capability, mainly. Pro is 6,000+ cycles against Essential's 4,000, 300A continuous against 200A, and 1,000A of cranking against 400A of peak. Pro also adds CANBUS/RS485 with Victron support and IP67 sealing against Essential's IP54. Essential is the better value for a straightforward house bank; Pro is what you want if the battery has a harder job.
What does 3.84kWh actually run?
A 12V fridge, LED lighting, water pump, charging and electronics on a boat or RV for a day and a half to two days. Through an inverter, roughly 3kWh of AC after conversion losses — enough for a coffee maker, a microwave in bursts, laptops and a TV. Call us with your load list and we'll be more specific.
Why is the max charge voltage 15.4V rather than 14.6V?
The Pro Series BMS allows a higher ceiling than Epoch's Essential range. It doesn't mean you should charge at 15.4V routinely — it means the battery tolerates a charging source that goes there, which matters with some alternators and older charge controllers. Set your charger to a LiFePO4 profile and it will do the right thing.
Can I use it with Victron equipment?
Yes — CANBUS and RS485, with Victron ecosystem support. The optional Pro Series communications box extends compatibility to more inverters and to NMEA 2000, which is worth having on a boat with an integrated instrument network.
How many can I connect together?
Up to four in series for 48V, or up to sixteen in parallel. Sixteen in parallel is 4,800Ah, which is far more than most systems need — the practical limit is usually space and budget rather than the battery.
Why lithium iron phosphate rather than lead-acid?
Three reasons that matter in practice. You can use nearly all of the rated capacity rather than half, so a 100Ah LFP battery does the work of a 200Ah lead-acid one. It weighs roughly a third as much for the same usable energy. And it lasts thousands of cycles instead of a few hundred, so the cost per cycle is dramatically lower despite the higher purchase price.
Do I need a lithium-specific charger?
Yes. A lead-acid charger's absorption and float voltages are wrong for LFP — it will either leave the battery short of full or hold it at a voltage that shortens its life. Any charger with a LiFePO4 profile works, and we stock Epoch's own matched chargers in 12V, 24V, 36V and 48V.
Is IP67 worth paying for?
If the battery lives anywhere that can get wet — a bilge, an open locker, a boat deck, an exposed trailer — yes, unambiguously. IP67 means it survives thirty minutes submerged in a metre of water. If it lives in a dry basement or a sealed RV compartment, the sealing is insurance you may never need.
