Which power stations does this work with?
The Anker SOLIX F3800, or two F3800 Plus units running on a Double Power Hub. It is built around split-phase 120 V / 240 V output. If you own an F2000, F2600 or F3000, those are 120 V units and need the smaller L5-30 kit instead. Call us at (303) 876-7654 with your model number if you are not certain.
How is this different from the Smart Home Power Kit?
This is manual and that is automatic. Here you go to the switch and move circuits over yourself. The Smart Home Power Kit uses the Home Power Panel to transfer in about 30 milliseconds, and it also enables rooftop solar integration and time-of-use bill savings, which a manual switch cannot do at all. This one costs considerably less and is simpler to install.
Which ten circuits should I choose?
Refrigeration, lighting, networking and a furnace blower are the usual core. The 50 A rating and the 240 V capability let you add one or two heavy circuits such as a well pump. Central air conditioning is where a single F3800 runs out of headroom. Settle the list with your electrician before work starts.
Do I need an electrician?
Yes. The switch is pre-wired inside its cabinet, but connecting it to your existing panel is work on a live service and a permit is generally required. That is not a DIY job regardless of how much arrives assembled.
Can I add solar to this setup?
Yes, but the panels connect to the power station directly rather than through the switch. That is worth doing on a manual setup, because recharging the F3800 during a multi-day outage otherwise means disconnecting it and finding a live outlet.
What happens when the power station is depleted?
You disconnect it from the inlet and recharge from a wall outlet once the grid is back, or from solar during the outage. There is no automatic management. Expansion batteries, up to six per F3800 for 26.9 kWh, are the other way to extend runtime.
Is 50 A enough for my house?
It is enough for ten well-chosen circuits, which is what most people mean by essential backup. Whole-house coverage including central air on a hot day is a different conversation and usually points toward two power stations or the E10 system with a Power Dock.
Can I upgrade to automatic transfer later?
You would be adding a Home Power Panel and a sub panel, which is a second electrical job rather than a swap. If automatic transfer or solar integration is where you expect to end up, the Smart Home Power Kit at the outset costs less than doing the work twice.
