The F3800 was the first portable power station to put 6,000 W and true 120 V / 240 V split-phase output in a single box, and that is still what makes it worth owning. A built-in NEMA 14-50 and L14-30 mean a well pump, an electric dryer or an air handler runs directly, without pairing two units or adding a hub.

It scales in two directions. Six BP3800 expansion batteries take one unit from 3.84 kWh to 26.9 kWh. A second F3800 on a Double Power Hub doubles output to 12,000 W and the ceiling to 53.8 kWh. Which configuration should I choose?
Start from what you need to run rather than from a capacity number. If everything on your list fits inside 6,000 W, a single unit works and you add batteries for runtime. If you need central air conditioning or several heavy loads at once, only the two-unit option with a Double Power Hub gets you there, and no amount of batteries will substitute.
Can I add to it later?
Yes, all of it. Expansion batteries, solar panels, a second power station with a hub, a transfer switch or the Home Power Panel can all be added after the fact. Nothing in the base unit needs replacing when you expand, which is the main argument for starting smaller than you think you need.
How is the F3800 different from the F3800 Plus?
Same 3,840 Wh capacity and same 6,000 W output. The Plus adds three things: 3,200 W of solar input on an 11 to 165 V window against 2,400 W on 11 to 60 V here, true 240 V generator bypass which the standard F3800 does not have, and different special sockets, a 3,000 W TT-30 plus a 6,000 W L14-30 rather than this unit's NEMA 14-50 and L14-30. If you are charging from a wall outlet and not adding a large array, the standard unit does the same job.
How far can I expand it?
Six BP3800 expansion batteries per unit for 26.9 kWh. Two F3800 units on a Double Power Hub with twelve batteries reach 53.8 kWh and 12,000 W of output. Anker also confirms an F3800 and an F3800 Plus can share a hub, so mixing generations is possible.
Can it back up my house?
It can feed household circuits through a transfer switch, an inlet box or the Home Power Panel, none of which are included. 6,000 W with both voltages from one unit covers most essential circuits including a well pump or a furnace. Central air conditioning on a hot day is where a single unit runs short.
Can I charge it and use it at the same time?
Partly. Anker states that while the F3800 is recharging on AC power, only its 120 V UPS outlet is available for powering other devices. Solar charging does not carry that restriction, which is one practical argument for adding panels.
Can I charge an EV with it?
Yes, directly through the NEMA 14-50 port with your vehicle's own cable. Double-press the 240 V power switch to enable EV mode. At 3,840 Wh it is a range top-up rather than a full charge, since that is a small fraction of a car battery.
How much solar can it take?
2,400 W maximum through XT-60 at 11 to 60 V. Current limits are 10 A between 11 and 32 V and 25 A between 32 and 60 V, and firmware 2.1.1 and later shifts those thresholds slightly. Anker rates a 0 to 80 percent solar recharge at about 1.5 hours at full input.
How should I store it between outages?
Anker is specific here and it matters for battery life. Turn off all outputs, keep it somewhere cool and dry, check the capacity weekly and recharge if it falls below 30 percent, and charge it to 100 percent every three months. A pack left flat for months loses capacity permanently.
How long will the battery last?
LFP chemistry with a 10-plus year design life and a five-year warranty. That is the chemistry choice that separates these units from cheaper NMC power stations rated for a few hundred cycles.
