Why the Smart Generator 5500
4,500 W of DC Charging, Not 3,600 W of AC
Charging the E10 over DC at 400 V avoids a conversion stage. On gasoline or propane it delivers 4,500 W DC, or 4,000 W on natural gas. The AC side is rated 3,600 W on all three fuels if you need to run something directly.

Gasoline from the 2.64 gallon metal tank, propane through the included hose, or natural gas through the included adapter. When one supply runs out during a long outage, you are not stuck.
Five Ways to Start, Including Not Being Home
Recoil, electric button, app over Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, remote command from the E10 energy management system, and scheduled automatic start. The E10 can call for a charge on its own.

Why charge a battery instead of just running the house off the generator?
Efficiency and noise. Running an engine to follow a household load means it spends most of its time throttling up and down at part load, which is where a generator is least efficient. Charging the E10 lets the engine run at its best point for a short window, then shut off while the battery carries the house silently. Anker puts the typical charging window at around five hours a day.
What is the difference between the DC rating and the AC rating?
The DC output is what charges the E10, at 4,500 W on gasoline or propane and 4,000 W on natural gas, delivered at 400 V. The AC output is 3,600 W on all three fuels through a NEMA 5-20R and a TT-30R inlet, for running something directly. The 5,500 W figure in the name is starting power, not continuous output.
Which fuel should I run it on?
Natural gas if you have a line, because it never runs out and needs no storage, at the cost of 500 W of DC output. Propane for shelf life, since it does not degrade in storage the way gasoline does. Gasoline for the highest output when you have it. The propane hose and the natural gas adapter both ship in the box.
Can it start by itself when the battery gets low?
Yes. Alongside recoil, electric button and app start, it accepts remote commands from the E10 energy management system and supports scheduled automatic start. In practice that means an outage can run for days without anyone walking outside.
How loud is it?
Anker rates Eco mode at 69 dB(A) measured at 7 m. That is comparable to a conversation at close range and considerably quieter than a conventional standby generator, but it is not silent. The larger point is that it runs for a few hours rather than continuously.
Can I install it outdoors?
Yes. The enclosure is NEMA 3R and the operating range is -4 F to 131 F. Note the altitude limit of 6,561 ft and that power is corrected per SAE J1349, so output falls at elevation. That matters in the mountain west.
Is the DC charging cable long enough?
The 3 m cable in the box is fine if the generator sits beside the E10. If you want it in a shed or well away from the house, Anker sells a 32.8 ft (10 m) DC charging cable. Anker specifies that only its own 3 m or 10 m cable may be used on the DC output port.
Does it work with anything besides the E10?
Anker lists compatibility across its ecosystem including the F3800 Plus, F3800 and F3000 as well as the E10. Compatibility details vary by model, so call us at (303) 876-7654 before ordering if you are pairing it with a portable power station rather than an E10.
