Epoch 48V 100Ah 5.12kWh Self-Heating Server Rack LiFePO4 Battery

A 3U rack-mount 48V battery with 5.12kWh nameplate and 4.92kWh usable, rated for 6,000+ cycles — noticeably more than most batteries in this format. The self-heating is the unusual part: it activates automatically between −25°C and 5°C, so the battery keeps charging in an unheated garage or outbuilding through winter.

Up to 32 units connect in parallel plug-and-play, and CAN/RS485 communication is documented against a long list of inverters — Victron, Sol-Ark, Growatt, SMA, Deye, Sunsynk, Solis, Schneider, Luxpower, GoodWe and more. UL1973 tested, with an 11-year warranty. Renewable Outdoors is an authorized Epoch dealer — call us at (303) 876-7654 and we'll confirm the pairing with your inverter.

Why the Epoch Server Rack Battery

6,000+ Cycles

Well above the 3,500 typical of this format — the figure that actually determines cost per kWh over the battery's life.

Self-Heating Below 5°C

Activates automatically from −25°C to 5°C with a charge current above 0.08C, so cold weather does not stop it charging.

32 in Parallel

Plug-and-play expansion to 163kWh, which puts light commercial storage within reach of one product line.

CAN and RS485 Comms

Documented against Victron, Sol-Ark, Growatt, SMA, Deye, Sunsynk, Solis, Schneider, Luxpower, GoodWe and more.

3U Rack Format

17.4" × 18.1" × 5.2" — standard rack mounting for a tidy, serviceable installation.

4.92kWh Usable

Epoch publishes the usable figure at 0.2C rather than only the nameplate, which makes system sizing honest.

What You Get

  • 1 × Epoch 48V 100Ah 5.12kWh self-heating server rack battery (3U)
  • Documentation and warranty paperwork

This battery is IP20 — indoor installation only. A rack or cabinet, battery-to-inverter cables, communication cables and fusing are separate. Do not wire these in series; expansion is by parallel connection only. Call us at (303) 876-7654 and we'll put the parts list together with you.

Epoch 48V 100Ah 5.12kWh Self-Heating Server Rack LiFePO4 Battery: Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between nameplate and usable capacity?
Nameplate is what the cells hold; usable is what you can actually cycle in normal service. Epoch publishes 5.12kWh nameplate and 4.92kWh usable at 0.2C, which is a more honest basis for sizing a system. Many manufacturers only quote nameplate, which is why systems sometimes come up short of expectations.
Why does the 6,000-cycle rating matter?
It's the number that determines cost per kWh over the battery's life. At 6,000 cycles a battery cycled daily is still healthy sixteen years later; at 3,500 it's closer to nine or ten. If you're building a system you intend to keep, the cycle rating is worth more attention than the purchase price.
Can it live in an unheated garage?
Yes — that's what the self-heating is for. It activates between −25°C and 5°C provided there's a charge current of at least 0.08C, so the battery warms itself and keeps accepting charge. Without heating, a lithium battery below freezing simply blocks charging, which makes it useless for several months of the year in a cold climate.
Can it be installed outside?
No. It's IP20, which means protection against solid objects but none at all against water. It needs to be indoors — a utility room, a garage, a plant room. If you need outdoor storage, that's a different product class entirely and we're happy to point you at it.
Which inverters does it work with?
Epoch documents CAN/RS485 compatibility with a long list: Victron, Sol-Ark, Growatt, SMA, Deye, Sunsynk, Solis, Schneider, Luxpower, GoodWe, Studer, Voltronic, Alpha-Outback, Sofar, SAJ, MEGAREVO, TBB and MPP. Communication protocol selection is usually a menu setting on the inverter. Call us at (303) 876-7654 with your model and we'll confirm.
How many can I put together?
Up to 32 in parallel, plug and play — around 163kWh, which reaches into light commercial territory. Do not wire them in series under any circumstances; the battery is a native 48V unit and series connection would exceed its design voltage.
How much can one battery deliver?
100A continuous at 51.2V, so roughly 5,120W of DC output, with 200A available for fifteen seconds. A single battery suits an inverter of around 4kW; larger inverters need more batteries in parallel to supply them properly.
Why lithium iron phosphate rather than another lithium chemistry?
LFP trades a little energy density for a great deal of safety and service life. It doesn't have the thermal runaway behaviour nickel-based lithium chemistries can exhibit, it tolerates sitting at a high state of charge, and it lasts thousands of cycles rather than hundreds. For a battery in a boat, an RV or a house, those are the properties that matter.
How heavy is it, and does that affect the rack?
About 101 lbs per battery. A rack with four or five of these in it is carrying 400 to 500 lbs, so the rack needs to be rated for it and the floor needs to take it. Worth confirming both before delivery rather than after.
