Epoch 12V 50Ah Essential Series LiFePO4 Battery (640Wh)

14.3 pounds and 640Wh — the small Epoch, for the jobs that don't need a house bank. A kayak fish finder, a small trolling motor, a camper's lighting and USB charging, a ham radio setup, a mobility scooter, or one battery of a 36V trolling motor bank built from three of these.

It's still a proper LFP battery: 4,000+ cycles, a full BMS with over-charge, over-discharge, over-current, short-circuit and temperature protection, Bluetooth monitoring through the Epoch Pro app, and Epoch's 11-year warranty. Note that this model is not self-heated, so charging needs to be above freezing. Renewable Outdoors is an authorized Epoch dealer — call us at (303) 876-7654 if you'd like help deciding on capacity.

Why the Essential Series 50Ah

14.3 lbs

Light enough to carry in one hand into a kayak, a blind or a camper — a comparable lead-acid battery is nearly three times heavier.

640Wh of LFP

50Ah at 12.8V, with essentially all of it usable rather than the half you get from lead-acid.

4,000+ Cycles

Behind an 11-year limited warranty — for occasional use, effectively the life of the equipment.

Bluetooth with Multi-Battery View

The Epoch app manages a whole bank from one screen, which matters if you build a 36V setup from three of these.

Full BMS Protection

Over-charge, over-discharge, over-current, short-circuit protection and high and low temperature disconnects.

4S4P Configurable

Up to four in series for 48V, or four in parallel for 200Ah at 12V.

What's Included

Epoch 12V 50Ah Essential Series battery

What You Get

  • 1 × Epoch 12V 50Ah Essential Series LiFePO4 battery
  • Documentation and warranty paperwork

This model does not have internal heating — charging requires 32°F or above. Discharge is fine down to −4°F. A lithium-profile charger and cables are separate; Epoch's 12V 15A charger is the natural match for this size. Call us at (303) 876-7654 if you're building a multi-battery bank.

Epoch 12V 50Ah Essential Series LiFePO4 Battery (640Wh): Frequently Asked Questions

What can I actually run on 640Wh?
A fish finder for several days. A 30W LED light strip for twenty hours. A small 12V fan overnight and then some. A kayak trolling motor at low throttle for an hour or two. Phone and tablet charging for a week. It's a device-and-accessory battery rather than a house bank — if you want to run a fridge or an inverter, look at the 100Ah Eco or the 300Ah Essential.
Can I build a 36V trolling motor bank from three of these?
Yes — up to four in series is supported, so three in series gives you 38.4V nominal for a 36V motor. The Epoch app will show all three on one screen, which is genuinely useful for spotting a lagging battery. That said, Epoch's purpose-built 36V 50Ah battery does the same job in one case with internal heating, and is usually the tidier answer. Call us and we'll compare the two.
Why doesn't this one have heating when the bigger Essentials do?
It's a size and cost decision on Epoch's part. The practical consequence is that this battery needs to be above 32°F to accept a charge, though it will happily discharge down to −4°F. If it lives somewhere that freezes and you need to charge it there, one of the heated models is the right choice.
Is it safe in a kayak or a small boat?
LFP is the safest common lithium chemistry and the BMS protects against the failure modes that matter. The rating to watch is IP54 — splash-resistant, not submersible. In a kayak, keep it in a dry bag or a sealed hatch rather than exposed in the footwell.
How does it compare with a lead-acid battery of the same size?
A 50Ah lead-acid battery gives you about 25Ah of usable capacity before you start damaging it; this gives you close to 50Ah. It weighs 14.3 lbs against roughly 35 lbs. And it lasts 4,000 cycles against perhaps 300. The purchase price is higher and the cost per useful cycle is far lower.
Why lithium iron phosphate rather than lead-acid?
Three reasons that matter in practice. You can use nearly all of the rated capacity rather than half, so a 100Ah LFP battery does the work of a 200Ah lead-acid one. It weighs roughly a third as much for the same usable energy. And it lasts thousands of cycles instead of a few hundred, so cost per cycle is dramatically lower despite the higher purchase price.
Do I need a lithium-specific charger?
Yes. A lead-acid charger's absorption and float voltages are wrong for LFP — it will either leave the battery short of full or hold it at a voltage that shortens its life. Any charger with a LiFePO4 profile works, and we stock Epoch's own matched chargers in 12V, 24V, 36V and 48V.
How should I store it over winter?
Between 32°F and 95°F, for up to twelve months, and ideally around half charged rather than full or empty — that's kindest to lithium cells. It self-discharges slowly, so a top-up before the next season is usually all it needs.
Can I use it as a starting battery?
No. 170A for three seconds is not enough for engine cranking, and this is a deep-cycle battery. If you need starting capability, Epoch's 12V 172Ah Dual Purpose delivers 1,000A for five seconds and is designed for exactly that.
Do you offer financing or price matching?
Yes. We offer 0% APR financing options through Affirm at checkout, and our Lowest Price Guarantee applies — if you find this battery cheaper at another authorized dealer, call us at (303) 876-7654 before you order and we'll take care of it.
