3200W Rated · 4000W Peak · 20kWh Per Propane Tank · Auto Start
EcoFlow Smart Generator 4000 (Dual Fuel)
Every battery backup system eventually runs out. This is what stops that happening: a dual-fuel generator that starts and stops itself when your power station needs topping up, so a multi-day outage becomes a fuel question rather than a runtime limit.
3200W rated on gasoline with 4000W peak, and it feeds power stations directly over DC at 40–60V and up to 56A rather than going through an inverter. A 6L tank of gasoline delivers about 8kWh over 8 hours at 25% load; a standard 20lb propane tank gives roughly 20kWh and up to 24 hours. The app monitors CO concentration and temperature, and handles scheduling. Renewable Outdoors is an authorized EcoFlow dealer.

Please note: this generator cannot be shipped to California. It is not CARB-approved, so California sales and delivery aren't permitted. It also isn't covered by EcoFlow's after-sales service in Alaska — we can ship there, but we'd recommend adding accidental-damage coverage if you do. Call us at (303) 876-7654 if you're unsure whether we can deliver to you.
Why the Smart Generator 4000
Starts and Stops Itself
It watches your power station's charge level and runs only when needed — no going outside at 3am, and no generator droning all night.
Gasoline or Propane
Run whichever you can actually get in an emergency. 8kWh from a 6L tank of gasoline, or about 20kWh from a 20lb propane tank.
3200W Rated, 4000W Peak
Enough to recharge a large power station quickly and run loads directly, with X-Boost covering surges to 4000W.
Direct DC Charging
Feeds power stations over DC at 40–60V and up to 56A, skipping a conversion step and charging faster than an AC connection.
CO and Temperature Alerts
The app monitors carbon monoxide concentration and temperature, sending real-time warnings — a genuine safety feature, not a gimmick.
Five Ways to Start
Pull cord, electric button, reverse charging from a power station, app control, or a schedule — plus six ways to shut down.
Fuel Choice: What to Expect
Fuel
Rated Output
Energy Per Fill
Runtime
Trade-offs
Gasoline
3200W
About 8kWh from the 6L (1.58 gal) tank
2.8 hours at full load, 8 hours at 25%
Higher output and easy to find, but the tank is small and gasoline degrades in storage
LPG (Propane)
2900W
About 20kWh from a standard 20lb tank
Up to 24 hours
Slightly lower output, but two and a half times the energy per fill, stores indefinitely, and burns cleaner
For outage preparedness, propane is usually the better bet: it doesn't go stale the way stored gasoline does, a single 20lb tank holds roughly 20kWh against gasoline's 8kWh, and you can keep several tanks on hand indefinitely. Gasoline makes sense when you want the extra 300W of output or when propane is harder to source locally. The generator handles both, so you aren't locked in — call us at (303) 876-7654 if you'd like help planning fuel storage.

IP23 means the unit tolerates light rain from above but is not sealed against driving rain or spray. More importantly, as a fuel-burning generator it must run outdoors with clearance — never in a garage, shed, or enclosed porch.
No. The Smart Generator 4000 is not CARB-approved, so it can't be sold or delivered into California. We also can't offer EcoFlow after-sales service in Alaska, though we can ship there — if you're in Alaska we'd suggest adding accidental-damage coverage. Call us at (303) 876-7654 if you're unsure about your state.
What does "auto start" actually do?
The generator communicates with your EcoFlow power station and starts itself when the battery falls below a level you set, then shuts down once it's charged. In an extended outage that means you're not going outside in the dark to pull a cord, and the generator isn't running all night burning fuel you don't need to burn.
Should I run it on gasoline or propane?
For outage preparedness, propane usually wins. A 20lb tank holds about 20kWh against roughly 8kWh from the 6L gasoline tank, propane stores indefinitely where gasoline degrades over months, and it burns cleaner. Gasoline gives you 3200W rather than 2900W and is easier to find on the road. You can switch between them, so it's not a permanent decision.
Which power stations does it work with?
It's designed around EcoFlow's larger systems and charges them directly over DC at 40–60V and up to 56A — the DELTA Pro 3 in particular pairs with it as a bundle. If you want to confirm the automatic start/stop function works with the specific model you own, call us at (303) 876-7654 and we'll check before you order.
How loud is it?
70dB at full load, measured at 7 metres. That's quieter than most conventional generators but still clearly audible — this is an engine, not a battery. In practice the bigger advantage is that it only runs when your battery needs charging rather than continuously through the night.
Can it run in the rain or in a garage?
It's rated IP23, which handles light rain from above but not driving rain or spray. More importantly, like any fuel-burning generator it produces carbon monoxide and must run outdoors with clear space around it — never in a garage, shed, carport, or enclosed porch, even with the door open. The app's CO monitoring is a backstop, not permission.
How is it different from the Smart Generator 3000?
The 4000 is substantially more powerful — 3200W rated against the 3000's 2000W, with a 196cc engine rather than 98cc — and it has a larger 6L fuel tank and direct DC output up to 56A. It's also heavier at 83 lbs against about 48. Choose the 4000 for a DELTA Pro 3 or DELTA Pro Ultra system; the 3000 suits smaller DELTA power stations.
Can I use it as a standalone generator?
Yes, it provides AC output directly as well as charging power stations over DC. That said, its real advantage is the pairing: the power station handles instantaneous surges and silent overnight operation, while the generator supplies bulk energy. Used together they're considerably better than either alone.
What maintenance does it need?
Standard small-engine care — oil changes (550ml capacity), air filter checks, and spark plug maintenance. Helpfully, the EcoFlow app tracks runtime and sends maintenance prompts, so servicing is based on actual hours rather than guesswork. Read the manual before first use for the break-in procedure.
