Sol-Ark 15K Hybrid All-In-One Solar Inverter (120/240/208V)

The 15K is Sol-Ark's whole-home inverter: 12,000W continuous from batteries at 240V, 24kVA of surge for ten seconds, and a 200A grid passthrough that lets it sit in front of a full service panel rather than a subpanel of selected circuits. For most houses that's the difference between backing up the essentials and simply not noticing the outage.

Three full-size MPPTs across six DC solar ports take up to 19.5kW of usable PV, with another 19kW available through AC coupling for retrofits. A 275A battery charger, dual 48V battery ports, a dedicated generator input with auto-start, and a 5ms transfer time. What does a 200A passthrough let me do that a smaller inverter doesn't?
It lets the inverter sit in line with a standard 200A residential service rather than behind a critical-loads subpanel. In practice that means every circuit in the house stays live during an outage, subject to the 12kW the inverter can actually supply, instead of you deciding in advance which six circuits matter. It also removes a subpanel and its wiring from the installation cost.
How much can it run at once during an outage?
12,000W continuous at 240V. That's a central air conditioner plus a refrigerator plus lighting and electronics, or a well pump plus an electric water heater, with 24kVA of ten-second surge headroom for startup. How does it compare with the 12K and the 18K?
The 12K gives you 9kW continuous, two MPPTs and a 63A passthrough — right for essential-loads backup. The 15K steps up to 12kW, three MPPTs and a 200A whole-home passthrough. The 18K goes to 18kW continuous with a 350A battery charger, for larger homes and heavier motor loads. The jump from 12K to 15K is the one that changes what kind of installation you can do.
What is AC coupling, and when would I use it?
AC coupling connects an existing grid-tied solar system to the 15K on the AC side, rather than rewiring the panels into the inverter's DC inputs. It's how you add battery backup to a house that already has solar without redoing the array. The 15K supports up to 19kW of AC-coupled PV, which is a lot of existing system.
Which batteries work with it?
It's battery-agnostic across 48V lithium and lead-acid, with BMS communication over CAN and RS485. In practice that covers EG4, Ruixu, SOK, Fortress, Discover and most major server-rack and wall-mount systems. The 275A charger means a large bank refills quickly.
Do I need a licensed electrician to install this?
Yes. A hybrid inverter ties into your main electrical service, and in every US jurisdiction that is licensed work requiring a permit and an inspection. The unit itself is pre-wired, which shortens the job considerably compared with assembling separate components, but it is not a DIY installation. We can talk you through what your installer will need before you order.
Can I parallel more than one?
Yes. Sol-Ark's 2P platform supports stacking for higher output and larger arrays. If you're planning a system that big it's worth designing it properly upfront rather than adding a second unit later — call us and we'll work through the layout.
Does it start a generator by itself?
Yes. There's a dedicated GEN port with auto-start, so during a long outage the inverter can call the generator when the batteries fall to your chosen threshold and shut it down again when they're full. That's what turns a multi-day outage into something you don't have to manage manually.
Can it be installed outdoors?
Yes — IP65 / NEMA 3R, rated from −25°C to 55°C. It derates above 45°C, so a shaded wall or a north-facing location will hold full output longer in a hot climate than direct afternoon sun.
