The PowerView dongle is what turns a Sol-Ark inverter from a box on the wall into a system you can actually see into. It adds wired Ethernet alongside Wi-Fi, unlocks the full PowerView app and web tool, and — the part that matters most in practice — lets Sol-Ark's own support team look at your system remotely.

A surprising share of inverter problems turn out to be a setting or an old firmware version. With the dongle fitted, those get resolved over the phone instead of with a truck roll. It also enables participation in utility storage rebate programs in California, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Vermont and a growing list of other states.

• Wired Ethernet or Wi-Fi: Ethernet gives a stable connection where Wi-Fi at the inverter's location is marginal — often a garage or an exterior wall.
