Battery quantity follows the option selected above. A single F3800 Plus accepts up to six BP3800 batteries for 26.9 kWh total. Each BP3800 weighs 72.8 lb, so a five-battery stack is well over 500 lb in total and needs a floor and a route planned for it. Solar panels, transfer switches and Home Power Panels are sold separately.

How many batteries do I actually need?
Work backwards from your daily consumption during an outage. A fridge, lighting, networking and a furnace blower typically land between 4 and 8 kWh a day. At 7,680 Wh the base plus one battery covers roughly a day; five batteries and 23,040 Wh gets you to three or four. Add solar and those numbers extend considerably. Does adding batteries let me run bigger appliances?
No, and this is the most common misunderstanding. Output stays at 6,000 W continuous with either one battery or five, because the inverter is in the power station rather than the batteries. If you need more than 6,000 W, the answer is a second F3800 Plus on a Double Power Hub for 12,000 W, not more batteries.
How is the F3800 Plus different from the original F3800?
Three things. Solar input goes from 2,400 W to 3,200 W, on a much wider 11 to 165 V dual MPPT window instead of 11 to 60 V, which is what allows series-wired rigid arrays. It adds true generator bypass, which the F3800 does not have, at up to 6,000 W on 240 V. And the special AC sockets differ: the Plus has a TT-30 rated 3,000 W plus an L14-30 rated 6,000 W, where the F3800 has a NEMA 14-50 and an L14-30. Capacity is the same 3,840 Wh on both.
How far can I expand it?
Up to six BP3800 expansion batteries on a single F3800 Plus for 26.9 kWh. Pair two units with twelve batteries and you reach 53.8 kWh. Anker confirms that an F3800 and an F3800 Plus can be used together on a Double Power Hub or a Home Power Panel, so an existing F3800 owner can add a Plus rather than starting over.
Can I run my whole house on it?
Depends on the house and how it is connected. 6,000 W with 120 V and 240 V from a single unit covers most essential circuits including a well pump or a furnace. Two units in parallel give 12,000 W, which reaches most homes outside of central air conditioning on a hot day. The connection method matters as much as the wattage, which is where the Home Power Panel, a transfer switch or an inlet box comes in.
What does the generator bypass actually do?
It lets a 240 V generator pass power straight through to your loads while also charging the battery, at up to 6,000 W. Anker rates a full recharge from a generator at about 1.5 hours and claims up to 50 percent better fuel efficiency than running a generator continuously. Note that the Anker SOLIX Generator Adapter is required and bypass supports a single F3800 Plus unit only.
Which output ports work in which situation?
This catches people out, so it is worth reading Anker's port conditions before you buy. With no AC input connected, all ports work. Plugged into a 120 V wall outlet, only the TT-30R and the three leftmost UPS-backed NEMA 5-20R ports are usable, with a 1,440 W bypass limit, and the L14-30R is not available. With a 240 V generator connected, the TT-30R gives 3,000 W and the L14-30R gives 6,000 W, but the NEMA 5-20R ports are not available. Can I charge my EV with it?
Yes. Double-press the AC outlet button to enable EV mode and set the vehicle charging rate below 25 A. No adapter is needed; you plug the EV's own cable in. It is a range top-up rather than a full charge, since 3,840 Wh is a small fraction of a car battery.
Can rooftop solar recharge it during an outage through the Home Power Panel?
No, and this surprises people. During an outage you connect panels directly to the F3800 Plus solar inputs at 11 to 165 V. Exceeding 165 V will damage those ports, so calculate string voltage at your coldest expected temperature before connecting.
What is Storm Guard?
The system watches for severe weather alerts and charges automatically ahead of the storm, so the pack is full rather than half full when the outage arrives. Note that Storm Guard requires the Anker SOLIX Home Power Panel.
