Same platform, less output and less weight. The 6.5KW gives you 6500W against 8000W and 10,000W, 10kW of solar against 11kW, and 42 lbs against 59.5. It's also slightly more efficient at 93%. If 6500W covers your simultaneous load, it's the easier unit to mount and the cheaper one to buy.
What does time-slot scheduling actually let me do?
Set windows in which the inverter charges from the grid and windows in which it discharges the battery to your loads. On a time-of-use tariff that means charging cheaply overnight and running on battery during expensive afternoon hours. It's a settings feature, not extra hardware.
How much solar can I connect?
10kW total — 5000W per MPPT, within a 150–450V operating window, with 550V of open-circuit headroom per input. Two independent trackers means you can run arrays on two different roof faces without one dragging the other down.
What are the four charging modes for?
Hybrid uses grid and solar together. Utility priority charges from the grid first, which suits areas with unreliable sun and cheap power. Solar priority charges from panels first and only tops up from the grid when needed. Solar only never touches the grid. Most people settle on solar priority or hybrid.
Which batteries give closed-loop communication?
SunGoldPower's own — the SG48100P and SG48200T communicate over CAN and RS485 so the inverter reads real state of charge and charge limits. Other 48V batteries work electrically; whether they close the loop depends on protocol support. Call us at (303) 876-7654 with what you have.
Can this sell power back to the grid?
No. The SPH series is an off-grid and backup platform — it accepts grid or generator power as an input to charge your batteries and to pass through to your loads, but it does not export to the utility. If grid export or net metering is what you want, SunGoldPower's SGN hybrid series is the range to look at instead.
Can it run without a battery?
Yes — battery-free operation is supported, so you can run it as a solar inverter now and add storage later.
Is 42 lbs light enough to mount alone?
For most people, yes, though a second pair of hands and a French cleat or a helper holding the unit makes it much easier and safer. It's a meaningful difference from the 59.5 lb 8KW and 10KW units.
Do I need a licensed electrician?
For anything that connects to your home's electrical service, yes — that is permitted, inspected work in every US jurisdiction. A standalone off-grid system in a cabin or workshop with no utility connection is treated differently depending on where you are, but the wiring still has to be done to code.
