How many batteries come with it?
One. Anker is explicit about this and it is the most common surprise on this product. The cooler has two battery bays and the headline 4.3 day runtime assumes both are filled. With the single included battery you get roughly 52 hours, which is still two days. A second battery is sold separately.
Is 4.3 days a realistic number?
It is a best case. Anker measured it with an empty cooler in Eco mode at 39 F internal, 77 F ambient, with two fully charged batteries. A loaded cooler, a hotter day, a colder setpoint or opening the lid regularly will all bring it down. Treat it as a ceiling and plan for meaningfully less.
Can it actually freeze things?
Yes. The range goes to -4 F, which is real freezer territory, not just deep chilling. That is the practical difference between a compressor cooler and a thermoelectric one, which cannot freeze at all and struggles on hot days.
Which size should I get?
Anker suggests 40L for a couple of people on a short trip and 58L for four or five people or a serious grocery load. They also make a 23L for solo use, which is not on this listing. Both sizes here have identical cooling, batteries and runtime, so this is purely a volume decision.
Can I run it from my car?
Yes, via the included car charging cable. It also runs from a wall outlet, from USB-C at 60 W, or from a 100 W solar panel. Note that solar charging requires at least one battery to be in the compartment; it will not run the cooler directly off a panel with the bays empty.
Is it waterproof?
IPX3, which means light rain and splashes. It is not submersible and should not sit out in a downpour. Anker has offered a separate waterproof cover; call us at (303) 876-7654 if you want us to check current availability on that.
Why does the compressor keep stopping and starting?
That is normal and it is how a refrigerator works. Once the box hits your setpoint the compressor stops to save power, and restarts when the temperature drifts up. The cycling is what makes the runtime figures possible.
Can I stack things on it?
Up to 132 lb on the lid, which Anker calls out specifically for fishing gear. The six-inch wheels are rated for 200 stairs of stress testing and the retractable handle pulls up to 88 lb, so it is built to be loaded and moved rather than carried empty.
Does the battery work as a power bank?
Yes. Each 288 Wh battery has a 60 W USB-C port and a 12 W USB-A port, so the battery you are carrying for the cooler also charges phones, tablets and cameras. On a second battery that is a genuine reason to buy one beyond runtime.
The display reading seems slow at first. Is something wrong?
No, and Anker documents this. The insulation delays the sensor picking up how fast the interior is dropping during the first cooldown, so the display lags. It normalises after the first few uses.
